We just got back from Wilkes-Barre, PA, where we have had a wonderful fun-filled, family-filled, food-filled time! Oh, and did I mention the food? Cuz there was a ton of it. Initially, Derek was incredibly overwhelmed because there was A LOT of family. Paul has a very large extended family and having them all in one place can be awesomely crazy. But, once he broke out of his shell, he was all over the place!
The plane ride out was a little insane. He was, I am so sad to report, “that baby”. He screamed. He threw temper tantrums. He cried. He would not sleep. He was overtired and we could just not seem to soothe him. With about an hour left in our flight and after his 2nd tantrum the elderly lady sitting next to me politely asked if she could give it a try. He was asleep in her arms after 10 minutes. She just had that grandma touch that he needed. Our pride was a little bruised but we were relishing in the calm that followed. Unfortunately, we did not have a grandma type person on the way back (and we were searching for one), but there were some lovely gals on their way to a Vail ski trip that Derek was flirting with. That helped a ton. Only ONE temper tantrum on the flight back. We are not planning on flying with him anytime soon. Oy vey!
It’s was wonderful to introduce the D-man to all of Paul’s family. And of course, they loved him at first sight. I mean, who wouldn’t?!?! The kid is too cute! On Christmas morning, he made out like a bandit. The grandparents decided that they would ship everything back to CO which freed them to shower gifts upon him as much as their hearts desired without concern of how we would get the loot gifts back. The kid made bank. And that bank’s currency… toys. If toys were currency, he’d be putting me through college. I’m sure you catch my drift.
We’ve also ate a ton of food and any weight that I’ve managed to lose these past few months I’m sure are now back on the ol’ belly. But, it’s been worth it. The food is good. Everyone needs to experience a good polish Christmas. I had to cut my gluttonous feast short due to the stomach flu that was floating around and Derek caught a bad cold the last few days of the trip. We were ready to come home.
Well, here are a few pics of the D-guy on our trip (I know that’s what you came here for). I’m so proud to be this little guy’s mommy. He makes motherhood a joy.
We hope you all are having a wonderful Christmas season (or Chanukah or Happy Solstice for those certain friends, you know who you are). Love to you and your families!
